Ravens 51 Mustangs 71
Ravens women’s basketball closed out their opening weekend with a 71-51 loss to the Western Mustangs.
The Mustangs flew out of the gate, dominating the Ravens in the first quarter 22-9.
The Ravens struggled to settle into the game, unable to find the open shot and going for the outside 3’s instead. This is a good plan in theory, but the Ravens had a 3 for 20 success rate over the game with their 3 pointers.
Western was a force to be reckoned with during the entire game, aggressively driving to the basket and drawing fouls. The Mustangs capitalized on their free throws, shooting 89.5% from the line, compared to the Ravens 54.5%.
The Ravens slowly battled to close the gap, but the Mustangs held onto the lead, dribbling out the final seconds of the game to a 71-51 victory over the Ravens.
Elizabeth Roach led the Ravens with 14 points. Heather Lindsay and McKenzie Sigurdson also hit double digits for the Ravens.
The Mustangs leading scorers were Jenny Vaughan (20) and and Kelsey Wright (18).
The Ravens are now 1-1 in the season. They head out on the road next weekend to face Lakehead on November 8th and Guelph on November 9th. Both games start at 6pm.
