TORONTO (Aug. 31, 2025) — The Carleton Ravens rallied from behind in the searing heat at Varsity Stadium to earn a hard-fought draw against the defending conference finalists and 2025 U SPORTS Championship hosts, the Toronto Varsity Blues.
A physical first half unravelled for the Ravens when Brady Curkovic was penalized for contact inside the box, resulting in a Toronto penalty. Jordan Grey converted from the spot, beating Ravens keeper Nathan Franz at the left post to open the scoring.
Curkovic redeemed himself in the second half, drawing Carleton level in the 57th minute. But the tie was short-lived—Grey struck again, sliding a slow roller past a sprawling Franz to restore Toronto’s lead.
Carleton pressed relentlessly in the final minutes, and their persistence paid off when Adrijan Vranjkovic found the equalizer to secure the draw.
“Opening weekend was a real test of character,” said Ravens head coach Marcelo Plada. “The result versus U of T showed our resilience and the true identity of Ravens soccer—fighting until the very end. If we tidy up in the attacking third, I believe even bigger results are ahead.”
The Ravens will look to sharpen their formations as they host Laurentian and Nipissing on September 6 and 7 at TAAG Park.
