TORONTO (Aug. 31, 2025) — The Carleton Ravens split their opening weekend following a 2-0 loss to the University of Toronto on Sunday.
The Ravens successfully opened their 2025 season with a 2-1 win over TMU on Saturday before heading downtown to face the Varsity Blues on Sunday afternoon.
Carleton fell behind early against TMU when Natalie Moynihan opened the scoring. The Ravens responded quickly, with Ava Mills levelling the match just seven minutes later. Carleton controlled the pace for much of the contest but couldn’t pull ahead until Mikayla Moser hammered a deep strike into the top corner past Elisa Paolucci for the go-ahead goal.
That momentum carried into Sunday, where the Ravens were the aggressors through the opening 30 minutes. However, Toronto substitute Emilija Lucic broke the deadlock, beating Chloe Lachance-Soulard to open the scoring. Minutes into the second half, Hannah Anderson added a brace off a corner kick to put the game out of reach. Despite battling hard for the remainder of the match, Carleton couldn’t overcome the deficit.
“Away games against TMU and Toronto are always tough,” said Ravens head coach Dominic Oliveri. “I’m proud of how we battled in the opener, showing grit and composure to come from behind and earn the win.”
“The second game slipped away on a couple of mistakes that we need to learn from,” he continued. “That’s part of the growth process, and I have no doubt this group will respond the right way.”
Carleton will have a great opportunity to bounce back when it hosts their 2025 home opener against Laurentian on Saturday, September 6, at noon. The Ravens will also welcome the always-tough Nipissing Lakers on Sunday, September 7, at noon to round out their first homestand of the season. Tickets for both days of doubleheader action are on sale now.
