The Carleton Ravens women’s soccer team earned a split of their home opening weekend, picking up a decisive win over Laurentian before falling 3-2 to Nipissing on Sunday.
Saturday afternoon, the Ravens opened at home by quickly jumping ahead on the Laurentian Voyageurs. Molly Owen deposited an Alexa Shwery long ball behind Hunter Jones to open the scoring just four minutes into the match.
The Ravens' offence didn’t let up from there as Ava Mills scored her first of two on the afternoon, ten minutes before half, to double the advantage. Illman would find Mills alone again early in the second half to finish the scoring on the afternoon as Carleton outshot Laurentian 13-4 en route to a 3-0 win.
Chloe Lachance-Soulard earned the clean sheet in the Ravens' goal.
The Ravens continued their strong play on Sunday afternoon, going shot for shot with the Nipissing Lakers.
Ava Mills connected with Lauren Illman just five minutes into the contest, and she deposited her first of the season to the far side. After Annika Nolte scored to draw level, Illman earned a penalty kick and made no mistake from the spot, depositing her second past Hayden Hanley.
The Ravens held their lead through the break. Despite playing a strong full-field game, Hannah Neville drew the match level in the 52nd minute, and Bella Nolte joined her sister on the score sheet in the 82nd minute to break the Ravens' hearts.
Carleton comes away with a 2-2 record through two weekends. They will now travel to Ontario Tech on Saturday afternoon and Trent on Sunday before hosting the Ottawa Gee-Gees on September 19 at TAAG Park.
