After falling behind 19-9 in the first quarter, the Carleton Ravens rallied from behind, led by Kyana-Jade Poulin, who had 34 points. Carleton and UVic traded leads in the fourth before Eden Henderson missed a go-ahead mid-range jumper with 40.4 seconds to go.
Out of the timeout, Arek Akeg would connect with Jacqueline Urban in the corner for the dagger three. The Ravens would close it out on defence for the 74-70 victory.
In the first game of the day, Concorida took advantage of a 27-17 turnover advantage as they downed the Saint Mary's Huskies 63-47. The Stingers were led by 15 points from Serena Tchida, while the Huskies got 19 from Emily Dikdan in the loss.
The Ravens started strong again on Friday evening, using a 24-10 first quarter to build momentum. The Ravens would ride their lead from start to finish, never trailing and beating Saint Mary's 64-54.
SMU clawed away at the Ravens' early lead in the second, outscoring Carleton 16-13 as they made it a 37-26 score at the half. Evie Hargraves did everything she could to keep SMU in the battle, but Carleton still led by 11 at halftime. Kyana-Jade Poulin led all scorers for the second night in a row, putting up 20 to Hargraves 17.
In the early game, the Victoria Vikes erased an early deficit but couldn't climb past the Stingers, falling 61-53. Victoria's rally in the second quarter saw them jump ahead by one at the half, but a 21-13 third quarter for Concordia was the difference. Angela Batrla of Concodia led all players with 16 points. Angela Becker had 14 for the Vikes in the loss.
After Concordia started the afternoon on a 9-2 run, the Ravens spent the first half clawing their way back into the game. Despite Serena Tchida leading the way for the Stingers, and foul trouble getting the best of Carleton, the Ravens only trailed 30-29 at the half. Kyana-Jade Poulin once again led the comeback, scoring 13 points for Carleton through the opening twenty minutes.
Carleton kept the foot on the pedal to start the third quarter and finally broke through, outscoring Concordia 17-6. Showing glimpses of their tenacious defence, the Ravens held the Stingers to 20% shooting on 3-for-15. Poulin and Mary-Lou St-Pierre had six points each in the quarter. Carleton would lock it down in the fourth and complete the comeback and weekend sweep 59-49.
UVic was explosive in the morning game Saturday, outscoring SMU 24-7 in the first quarter. McKenna Anderson led the way in the opening frame with 8 points as the Vikes shot 40.9% from the field, including 50% from deep. Despite a strong pushback from SMU through the middle two quarters, the early deficit was too much to overcome as the Vikes came away with an 84-54 victory.
