OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens men's hockey team continued their early-season struggles over the weekend, dropping a pair of games to Ontario Tech and Queens.
The Ravens opened the weekend with a 2-1 loss to the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. The Ridgebacks stifled the Ravens in the first, holding Carleton to just five shots while taking a 1-0 lead on Nathan Poole's second of the season.
Alex Drover would double the lead in the second period before Masen Culley could score his first OUA goal to cut the lead in half. Culley's low, hard snapshot past Beckett Langkow would be the only thing Carleton could get past the Ridgebacks' goaltender. Despite putting seven shots on goal in the third, Carleton couldn't generate enough pressure to finish the comeback.
Saturday night, Carleton entered a rematch with the Queen's Gaels with fire. The two teams quickly settled into an intensely physical battle with both teams trading penalties and huge hits throughout the opening frame, but no one scored.
Carleton would finally open the scoring in the second, with Nick McCarry banging home a puck from the foot of the crease to give the Ravens the lead. Carleton's lead would be quickly erased when the Gaels scored off the rush twice late in the second to lead 2-1 at the break.
Derek Hamilton's goal in the first minute and a Cameron Tolnai goal midway through the third period put things out of reach to open the third. Despite late pressure, including a 6-on-4 empty net power play, the Ravens couldn't overcome the deficit.
The Ravens will have one more chance to right their recent home struggles when they host Nipissing and RMC October 24 and 25 at the Carleton Ice House.
