The Carleton Ravens went 0-2 in the second week of their OUA season, falling 5-3 to the RMC Paladins on Friday before losing 5-1 to Ottawa on Sunday.
On Friday, the Ravens found themselves behind early. Just seconds after Braeden Virtue scored a shorthanded goal to open the scoring, the Paladins' power play connected twice to lead 2-1 after 20 minutes.
The two teams would trade goals in the second, with Robbie Rutledge and David Fournier scoring for the Ravens. After 40 minutes, Carleton continued to trail 4-3. As the Ravens opened up their system a bit, in hopes of tying the game, Connor Prestwich scored to make the game 5-3 in favour of the Paladins. Carleton would pull their goalie late, but couldn't beat Ethan Morrow in the Paladins' goal.
Sunday night, Carleton would again take the lead, with David Fournier opening the scoring, hammering a rebound past Gee-Gees goalie Franky Lapenna, but that would be where the offence stopped.
The Gee-Gees would strike in transition three times in the second, before adding a goal on the power play and another into the empty net in the third.
The Ravens' struggles on the weekend were primarily on special teams, with the team going 1-for-10 on the power play and allowing three power-play goals in eight short-handed situations.
"Special teams weren't great for us," said Mark Cavallin, of the team's loss Friday at RMC. "We gave up two PK goals in the first, and that put us behind. Then we had lots of opportunities for our power play, including a 5-on-3, and we didn't get enough out of that."
