On Saturday, the RSEQ announced the 2025 annual awards. Among the winners was Carleton's Fatima Ramadan, named the conference's Leadership and Community Engagement Award winner.
Ravens number 8 and Canada U20 international Sierra Hasse was named an RSEQ First Team All-Star.
The fourth-year student from Ottawa is heavily involved in the community, assisting with the Junior Ravens program, Varsity Council and community rugby programs.
Ramadan helps to organize and deliver the Junior Ravens programs, introducing youth in the community to the sport. In this role, Fatima supports planning and leading sessions for Flag Rugby (U10/U12) and Introduction to Tackle Rugby for boys and girls with little or no previous rugby experience.
In addition to assisting with the Junior Ravens, Ramadan is also an Inclusive Rugby Volunteer working as a rugby mentor for the Canadian JAX RFC. The club is the first unified rugby club in Canada, providing rugby programming to athletes regardless of intellectual and physical abilities. Ramadan also helps organize the Inclusive Rugby Jamboree, an annual event hosted by the JAX RFC and Carleton University Ravens.
In the community, Ramadan is a volunteer coach for the Ottawa Irish RFC Girls U14 team. She also leads skills sessions to help develop young players at the high school level. She is also a member of the Eastern Ontario Rugby Referees Association, officiating club and high school games. Was also involved as part of the team of officials for past international matches held in Ottawa.
On campus, Fatima is an active member of Carleton University Varsity Council with involvement in the Anti-Racism Committee and Community Outreach Committee. Fatima plays a key role in coordinating events within Athletics at Carleton University and within the community at elementary schools. As a member of Varsity Council, Ramadan represented Carleton at the Diversity in Sport Conference in 2025.Fatima has volunteered her time as the lead organizer in donation drives to support local causes and charities, including the collection of new or gently used clothing and non-perishable food items for the Ottawa Indigenous Food Bank and Ottawa Mission.
Fatima becomes just the second Raven ever to win the RSEQ award, joining Emma Thuot on the list of honourees.
For the second consecutive season, Sierra Hasse has earned First-Team All-Star honours. Hasse led the Ravens with ten tries and fifty points. Finishing third in RSEQ scoring, Hasse was a force offensively and defensively for the Ravens, making key tackles while also charging upfield.
