OTTAWA (Oct. 3, 2025) - Despite opening the scoring, the Carleton Ravens women's rugby team finished on the wrong side of the ledger Friday night, losing 61-8 to the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees.
Zoe Nield knocked through a penalty to open the scoring in Carleton's favour in the 12th minute, but the advantage wouldn't last long. The Gee-Gees stormed back, scoring four tries in the next 20 minutes to blow the contest open.
Despite consistent effort, Carleton just wasn't at their best at times Friday night with lapses in execution and penalties proving costly. The experienced Gee-Gees, looking to ensure a home playoff contest, never took their foot off the gas. Peyton Chase would score for the Ravens in the second half, but Ottawa would run away with the contest, scoring eight tries. Claire Bennett was perfect for Ottawa, going eight-for-eight on conversions.
Failing to earn a bonus point, the Ravens missed out on being tied with Montreal for the fourth and final playoff spot. To make the gap even more painful, the Ravens and Carabins would have been tied in point differential, requiring a deep run into tie breakers.
The Ravens will miss the playoffs for the first time since 2017, a year when the Ravens also came up just short behind Montreal in the standings.
