OTTAWA (Oct. 13, 2025) - The Ravens women's hockey team got an early test of what it will take to stand at the top of the OUA women's hockey standings this weekend when they hosted Waterloo and Toronto to start their season.
After 6-15-5 in their first season in the OUA, the young Ravens faced off against both 2025 OUA finalists. On Friday, the Ravens faced the U SPORTS runners-up from Waterloo. The two teams opened the game at a rapid pace, trading scoring chances and power play opportunities, coming out of the opening twenty in a scoreless tie.
The Ravens would kill off another pair of penalties in the second period, while managing to hold Waterloo to only 6 shots on goal. The defensive shift in the Ravens' play is a continued pattern head coach Stacey Colarossi hopes to see from her club.
Teagan Gray would score the lone goal of the second period just seconds after the Ravens successfully killed off a Kennedy Vickers penalty. Leading 1-0 entering the third, the Warriors would put Carleton away with two more goals just 4:43 apart to take the 3-0 victory.
Saturday night, the Ravens were up against perennial OUA East powers, the Toronto Varsity Blues. Abby Whitworth opened the scoring for Toronto early in the first, but Silken Nicholas quickly found the back of the net, knocking a backhand past Lyla McKinnon to even the game. Just 4:11 later, Toronto would retake the lead when Emma Elders found Kallie Chan cross crease for a quick strike.
The goal wasn't the worst part of the play for the Ravens as starting goaltender Kaitlyn Langille appeared to suffer a lower-body injury and was helped from the game. At the time of her injury, Langille had already recorded 9 saves, to go along with 21 on 24 shots Friday against Waterloo.
Ella Grad would come in to relieve Langille. The Varsity Blues extended their lead in the second when Whitworth put a bow on a hat trick with two goals before the midway point of the period. Vicky Kay would tighten the score for the Ravens late in the period, making it 4-2 heading into the third.
Toronto would add one in the third, taking advantage of their fourth power play of the evening, to make the final 5-1.
The Ravens return to action on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, when they host the UOttawa Gee-Gees for the women's hockey team's Red Game. All student tickets for Tuesday's game are just $2.
