OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens men's basketball team continues to flex a new, bigger and stronger front court. The new lineup didn't disappoint on Saturday as the Ravens owned the paint and defeated the Ottawa Gee-Gees 83-64.
Backed by overpowering second- and fourth-quarter performances, the Ravens outrebounded the Gee-Gees 61-30 en route to victory.
Carleton trailed after the first quarter. Starting slow, Carleton found themselves down 14-5 before they rallied back to stun the crowd at Montpetit Hall. A late three from Aubrey Dorey-Havens tied the game at 14 before the two teams exchanged points the rest of the quarter.
Louis Daoust extended Ottawa's lead to six to start the second before Louth-Mohamed Coulibaly scored five straight points to jump-start the Ravens. After a back-and-forth five minutes, Carleton finally seized a lead with just over four minutes to play in the half when Emanuel Ngo Kama Suzama hit a jumper, making it 32-31. With 13 second-quarter points from Coulibably and Suzama, the Ravens led by four at the break.
Marjok (MJ) Okado led the way in the third quarter, scoring 10 points as Carleton pushed their lead to 8. MJ only heated up further in the fourth quarter, going 3-for-5 from the land beyond and adding another 11 of his game-high 25 as the Ravens pulled away.
Size was a massive difference for the Ravens as Coulibaly, 10 points and 10 rebounds, and Cedric Mbiaba, 12 points and 11 rebounds, each recorded double-doubles. Emanuel Ngo Kama Suzama also had 10 rebounds to go along with 6 points. Veteran forward Emanuel Milon also chipped in with 8 rebounds and 9 points, including a pair of threes in the fourth quarter.
