Kingston, Ont. - A slow start on Friday night was costly for the Carleton Ravens as they found themselves behind 3-0 after 20 minutes before losing 6-2 to the Queen's Gaels.
Carleton fell behind 6:03 into the contest when Liam Tanner scored his fifth of the year. Sebbie Johnson made the Ravens pay again before the midway point of the first. Down 3-0 to open the contest, Carleton looked to battle back in the second when Braeden Virtue scored on the power play. Virtue's slapshot beat Tanner Wickware over the shoulder and cut the lead to two.
Before the second was out, the Gaels would reestablish their three-goal lead with Derek Hamilton scoring his fourth of the year.
Carleton appeared to build some momentum to open the third, with David Fournier stepping into the slot and snapping one over the shoulder of Wickware. Fournier's shot, which logged into the netting behind the back-bar, cut the lead to two, but for only 11 seconds. Michael Renwick would score off the ensuing draw and Liam Tanner added his second late in the period for the victory.
The Ravens are now back home, where they'll host the Concordia Stingers (7-7-1) on Friday night before facing the Ottawa Gee-Gees (8-4-2) in the 2025 Colonel By Classic at TD place on Saturday at 4:00 PM.
It's a crucial weekend for the Ravens; they sit three points behind the Gaels for sixth with one game in hand. The Stingers are two points up with the Ravens, while even in games. The Gee-Gees sit not far out of reach with 18 points, in a three-way tie for second. Ottawa has only played 14 games.
