Ottawa, Ont. (November 3, 2025) - Carleton Ravens men's hockey alumni Jason Seed is one of 29 Olympic hopefuls currently suiting up for Italy in pre-Olympic competition.
The 33-year-old defenseman from Ottawa has called Italy home since 2022, having earned an impressive professional career with Cortina and HC Bolzano, following time in France and Poland.
During his time at Carleton, Seed was a puck-moving defenceman known for his two-way game. He was a stabilizer for the Ravens, playing over 100 regular-season games in four years and recording 32 points, all assists. Seed appeared in the 2016 University Cup with Carleton, a heartbreaking multi-overtime loss to Saskatchewan.
Since turning pro, Seed's smooth skating has put him in a very unique position. Over the last two seasons, Jason has represented Italy internationally, helping the team earn promotion to the World Hockey Championships this spring. While earning promotion was key for the program, Italy's goals are more short-term, as they prepare to host the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
It's not out of the question to think Seed will play in the games; his recent strong play and veteran leadership saw him finish a +5 through five games at the 2025 World Hockey Championship Division 1A tournament last May. Jason and Team Italy will play three games in Sosnowiec from November 6 to 8, 2025, as part of the IIHF's new European Cup of Nations. With head coach Jukka Jalonen and his staff watching closely, the games provide a great opportunity for Jason to show he's ready to take on the world's best.
Should he be successful in joining the Olympic roster, Jason and the Italian's will face Finland, Sweden and Slovakia in a formidable group of death in Milan.
