November 17, 2025 - The Carleton women’s basketball team struck gold at the 2025 FISU 3x3 Basketball University World Cup in Brasilia, Brazil, on Sunday. The Ravens swept through all three games on the final day of competition to take home the title for the first time in program history, and the first time that a Canadian school has won the University World Cup title.
The team of Ingrid Matteau (Gatineau, Que. / CÉGEP de l’Outaouais), Tatyanna Burke (Winona, Ont. / Cardinal Newman Secondary), Dorcas Buisa (Gatineau, Que. / Heritage College) and Noelle Kilbreath (Calgary, Alta. / MacEwan University / Genesis Basketball) defeated the University of Seville from Spain 20-14 in the quarterfinal round. Awaiting the Ravens in the semifinals was Huazhong University of Technology, the school that defeated the Ravens in the 2024 championship game. This time, the Ravens got their revenge, as they outlasted the Chinese squad 21-19 in a physical, back-and-forth affair that was in doubt until the final minute.
In the final, Carleton took on Vasyl Stefanyk University of Ukraine, who had upset the Chinese Culture University of Taipei and Uganda Christian University to advance to the championship game. After some early stumbles, the Ravens pulled ahead and defeated the Ukrainians 16-11. Over the two days, the Ravens went 5-0 and averaged a tournament-high 19.2 points in their five games.
The FISU championship caps a run for the Ravens that saw them win silver at last year’s University World Cup and sweep through the FISU America Championship in Brasilia in May. The Ravens finish 2025 with an 11-0 record in international play.
Carleton is now 20-2 in 3x3 competition, having reached the finals of all four competitions in the last two years. For Buisa, the championship marks her third FISU gold medal, having been a part of both FISU America teams. Tatyanna Burke collected her second medal, while Matteau and Kilbreath earned their first medals.
