November 17, 2025 - The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team continued to create a new identity over the weekend while picking up back-to-back wins over Laurier and Waterloo to improve their record to 5–1 in conference play.
Carleton opened the weekend with a hard-fought victory against Laurier. After a slow start offensively, the Ravens led 12–7 after the first quarter and entered halftime ahead 30-25.
The turning point came in the third quarter when Carleton outscored Laurier 16–8, building momentum that carried into an 18-point fourth quarter to seal the win. Consistency plagued the Ravens on Friday night, shooting under 30% in the first and third quarters while finding a rhythm late in each half.
The Ravens leaned on their size and rebounding advantage, pulling down 47 rebounds compared to Laurier’s 31. Abany Deng was a force in the paint, recording a double-double with 13 points, 10 rebounds, and two massive blocks. Jacqueline Urban added 11 points and eight boards, while Marilou St-Pierre chipped in 10 points. Carleton’s bench was a difference-maker, contributing 30 points, and the team dominated inside with 38 points in the paint.
Despite shooting just 33.8% from the field and struggling from beyond the arc (1-for-15), a weakness that coach Dani Sinclair identified after the game. "We're not getting in the gym enough to get better at our game," she shared. "That's going to have to be something that changes if we're going to get to where we want to get to."
Defensively, the Ravens forced 28 Laurier turnovers, generating 22 points, and held the Golden Hawks to 26.8% shooting.
"It's just very inconsistent, we see it in spurts, but then we have trouble putting teams away," shared Sinclair. "We're just trying to control the game more and have more of an impact on how hard we are to play against."
Carleton carried Friday’s fourth-quarter momentum into Saturday’s matchup against Waterloo, starting strong with a 21–10 first-quarter lead. Much harder to play against than the night before, the Ravens never trailed, using efficient shooting and lockdown defence to secure their fifth win of the season.
"At times we were more decisive," said Sinclair of her team's play on Saturday. "We made some shots, we spaced the ball and made plays with the ball. I thought we made some good decisions."
The offensive star of the night was Jacqueline Urban, who delivered a near-perfect performance with 24 points on 8-of-9 shooting, including five three-pointers, and added five rebounds. Kyana-Jade Poulin contributed 16 points and five assists, while Tyanne Matosas-Adderley provided a spark from deep, hitting four triples en route to 12 points.Carleton drastically improved on Friday, shooting an impressive 54.5% from three-point range (12-for-22) and 40.4% overall, a stark contrast to Waterloo’s struggles from the floor.
The Warriors managed just 17.6% shooting and 10.5% from beyond the arc, despite getting to the free-throw line 32 times. Carleton’s defence was relentless, forcing 24 turnovers and converting them into 19 points, while limiting Waterloo to 14 points in the paint.
The Ravens also showcased their depth, with contributions from the bench and strong rebounding efforts from multiple players, including Nathalie Francis and Abany Deng, who combined for 18 boards.
The Ravens will look to extend their winning streak as they prepare for their next matchup Saturday at Ottawa.
The Ravens are on the road the rest of the fall before returning home on January 9.
