Ottawa, ON (Nov. 1, 2025) – The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team improved to 3-0 to start the 2025 season after sweeping Nipissing and Laurentian during their home-opening weekend.
On Friday night, the Ravens got off to a slow start, falling behind 7-0 before Olivia Richardson hit a three-pointer to put Carleton on the board. Avery Walker immediately responded with a three of her own before the Ravens could begin chipping away at the deficit.
After Nipissing extended the lead to eight, another three from Richardson cut it to five. Marilou St-Pierre and Tyanne Matosas-Adder scored back-to-back baskets to tie the game. By halftime, Carleton had rallied to take a 34-32 lead, thanks in part to Matosas-Adder’s eight second-quarter points.
The third quarter featured classic Ravens defense, as Carleton shut down Nipissing and outscored the Lakers 30-10. The Ravens shot 56% in the frame, led by Kyana-Jade Poulin, who contributed nine points and three assists. Carleton cruised through the fourth to secure a 78-59 victory in their home opener.
On Saturday, the Ravens started strong with a 6-0 run against the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs. Poulin once again led the way, scoring seven points in the first quarter.
Jacqueline Urban added six points and five rebounds in the second quarter as Carleton built a 30-20 halftime lead.
Laurentian mounted a comeback in the third, sparked by five points from Cadence Pecore. Discipline played a key role, as the Voyageurs kept Carleton off the free-throw line while converting three of six attempts themselves.
Entering the fourth with just a two-point lead, Carleton turned to Poulin, who opened the quarter with a three-pointer to extend the margin. The Ravens gradually pulled away, aided by a pair of Urban jumpers and two free throws to go up by 10.
Carleton’s defense locked in down the stretch, allowing only one point in the final 5:30 to seal a 61-45 win.
The Ravens now hit the road to face Queen’s and Ontario Tech next weekend before returning home to host Laurier and Waterloo.
