OTTAWA - The Carleton Ravens women's basketball team continued building momentum ahead of their final weekend of the first half, picking up a key 64-63 win over the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Saturday night.
The Ravens started nearly perfectly, building a 9-0 lead before Bailey Russell got Ottawa on the board. Kyana-Jade Poulin continued to lead the offence, scoring 9 of her team-high 22 points.
Ottawa would rally in the second, with Allie McCarthy leading the comeback as the Gee-Gees and Ravens traded 20 points each and held the 8-point Ravens lead into the half.
The Ravens extended their lead to 10 to open the half with Poulin and Jacqueline Urban scoring back-to-back. After Urban extended the lead to 45-34, Allie McCarthy hit another three to start the Ottawa comeback. Tyanne Matosas-Adderley would hit a three with forty seconds to play in the quarter to send Carleton into the fourth, holding a four-point lead.
A 7-0 run to start the fourth would see Ottawa put pressure on the Ravens. Olivia Richardson's three broke a four-minute scoring drought, but the Ravens were unable to score another field goal in the quarter until Richardson hit another clutch three with 1:34 to play to tie the game. Kyana-Jade Poulin would force a steal from Bayley Russell and put Carleton ahead 63-61 with under 80 seconds to play, but Allie McCarthy tied the game with just 24 seconds on the clock.
Abany Deng would hit a clutch free throw with eight seconds to play and then hauled in an Allie McCarthy missed three to secure the victory.
With the win, the Ravens improve to 7-1 and sit second in the OUA East behind the 9-0 Queen's Gaels. The Ravens are now on the road one last time in 2025 when they face Windsor (7-2) and Western (4-5) to wrap up the first half.
