It was a challenging weekend on the road for the Carleton Ravens, who dropped a pair of games at Laurier and Guelph, resulting in their regular-season record falling to 2-7-2.
Carleton opened the weekend on the right foot at Laurier and struck first just 1:17 into the game when Erica Buckley scored with assists from Olwen Jones and Nicole Hunter. The young Raven continued her hot play after netting her first OUA goal last weekend at Windsor.
Laurier responded quickly and took control, scoring three times in the first period and adding two more in the second to build a 5–1 lead.
Carleton’s second goal came late in the third period from Avery Krawchuk. Only able to manage 18 shots, Carleton was unable to challenge Kayla Renaud, who allowed two goals on a light workload.
Laurier finished with six goals on 30 shots, with Kaitlyn Langille playing 40 minutes, allowing five goals on 19 shots. In the third, Ella Grad stopped 10 of 11 shots in relief.
The Ravens travelled to Guelph on Saturday, looking to bounce back on the Olympic sheet, but were held scoreless despite generating only 16 shots.
Guelph scored twice in the first period, including a power-play goal, and added two more in the second to secure the 4–0 win. Special teams continued to plague the Ravens on Saturday, going 0-for-2 on the power play, while allowing two power play goals on five chances after not being penalized all Friday.
The Ravens split Saturday's game in goal with Ella Grad starting and taking the loss. She allowed the first three goals on 15 shots. Katelyn Langille had stopped 19 of 20 shots she faced in the second half.
The Ravens are back home this weekend, where they'll host Nipissing on Friday and Guelph on Saturday. Saturday's game is also the Ravens Hockey Fights Cancer night, with 50% of the proceeds from all tickets sold going to support the Carleton University Relay For Life.
