North York, Ont. (November 27, 2025) - The Carleton Ravens women's hockey team erased a three-goal third-period deficit to beat the York Lions in a shootout Thursday evening. After Hayden Serniuk scored in round two, Ella Grad stopped Ginger Fast in the third round of the shootout to secure the win.
The win is the Ravens' second consecutive extra-time win following last Saturday's win over Guelph. But it wasn't as easy as riding momentum. The Ravens outshot York 9-4 in the first period, but trailed after twenty minutes. Lexy Anonech had the opener for the Lions with just 2:05 to play in the first, after the Ravens had successfully killed off a Jayden Olafson penalty just minutes earlier.
York would score twice in the second period with Mikayla Totten potting both goals. Just minutes after the third Lions goal, Kaitlyn Langille would suffer an injury in a scramble at the side of the net and leave the game. With Ella Grad between the pipes the Ravens began to rally.
Carleton once again held York to four shots in the third while peppering Emma Wedgewood with 11 shots. Vicky Kay put the Ravens on the board, tipping home a Hayden Serniuk shot from the high slot. Then, just 11-seconds later, the Ravens would cause a York turnover off the ensuing face-off, and Erica Buckley would roof one over a sprawling Wedgewood to make it a one-goal game.
For Buckley, it was the rookie's fifth goal of the season and second in as many games.
With just over five minutes to play in the third, Kennedy Vickers would even things up with her second of the year, unloading a wrist shot from between the hashmarks to force overtime. An evenly matched extra frame solved nothing heading to the shootout.
After a scoreless first round, Hayden Serniuk came in with speed on Wedgewood and made a quick fake before snapping one over the glove, setting up a chance for Grad to play the hero. Looking to put fate back in the hands of the Ravens shooters, Ginger Fast attacked with speed and cut to her forehead, but Grad got low and stretched out her left leg, taking away the bottom of the net and stopping Fast with her toe.
With the win, the Ravens improve to 4-8-2 and pick up their second straight win. Carleton also moves within three points of Ontario Tech. The Ridgebacks hold the fifth and final playoff spot in the East, while also having two games in hand.
