OTTAWA - Another fairy tale comeback wasn't in the cards for the Carleton Ravens on Sunday as they were unable to recreate a string of recent comebacks, falling 4-1 to the Gee-Gees.
In front of nearly 1,000 fans, the Ravens found themselves behind by a pair midway through the first as Gillian Warren and Ella Humphrey converted for the Gee-Gees to make it 2-0 after 20 minutes. The Ravens' penalty kill was hard at work in the first, going to work twice in the first period as the Ravens looked to find a rhythm.
As the game settled down in the second, it was the power play's turn to go to work. Despite a pair of opportunities, Carleton lacked any major looks on their advantages and generated only 7 shots on goal in the second. Alex Ferguson's late goal in the final seconds of the period was a back breaker for the Ravens as they entered the third down three for the second straight game.
Before the Ravens could match Thursday's rally, the Gee-Gees struck first in the third as TJ Flores banged a puck past Kaitlyn Langille to make it 4-0. Erica Buckley would continue her hot play, burying a Lanie Guimond pass late in the third, but Carleton's offence would provide no more.
Langille had 40 saves on the night, increasing her first-half total to 351 and her career total over 1,100.
With the loss, the Ravens have dropped five straight Alerts Cup games, but have reason for optimism. The Ravens enter the holiday break playing well, going 3-5-2 over the last 10 games. They now sit just three points back of Ontario Tech for the fifth and final playoff spot with 11 regular-season games on tap after the break.
Carleton will open the second half on January 10 when they travel to North Bay to face Nipissing.
