The Carleton Ravens men's hockey team found a pair of late rallies to be too little too late over the weekend, losing to Concordia on Friday night before dropping the annual Colonel By Classic on Saturday afternoon.
The Ravens trailed Concordia 2-0 midway through the second on Friday before Majid Kaddoura got Carleton on the board. Concordia would quickly get one back taking a 3-1 lead into the third.
An early period power play to start the third seemed to give Carleton hope as Nick McCarry scored his ninth of the year, ripping a wrister past Joe Vrbetic to make it 3-2. Despite pushing for a tie, the Ravens failed to generate more than a handful of shots in the third and fell 4-2 to the Stingers.
Looking to bounce back on Saturday at TD Place, the Ravens once again found themselves behind. Generating only six shots through two periods, the Ravens trailed 4-0 before McCarry took a drop pass from Felix Bedard and beat Franky Lapenna over the shoulder, popping the bottle and making it 4-1 at the break.
The Ravens came out with new energy in the third, generating 20 shots in the period. Alex Johnston was the first to score for Carleton, making it 4-2 on a power play goal from Reese Belton. After Ottawa made it 5-2, Belton got one of his own, wristing a low shot from the high slot past Lapenna. Just 1:19 later, Bedard got one of his own, firing a puck from the half-wall that beat Lapenna far side and under the bar to make it 5-4.
Carleton pushed hard in the final five minutes but couldn't get a fifth passed Lapenna, who picked up an assist on the empty-netter.
With the back-to-back losses, Carleton enters the holiday break eighth in the OUA East with a 6-10-1 record and a -21 goal differential. The third-worst differential in the OUA, Carleton will look to improve their defensive play over the break, sitting just five points back of a playoff spot.
