The Carleton Ravens built momentum from a hard-fought 4-2 loss at McGill on Friday and topped the first-place UQTR Patriotes on Sunday night at the Advanced Capital Ice House.
The Ravens played well on Friday, taking a first-period lead on Nick McCarry's 11th of the season. The veteran forward walked into the high slot on the power play and ripped a shot past Nicolas Ruccia to give the Ravens the lead. Carleton would double their lead early in the second with Alex Fournier scoring a shorty before McGill responded.
The Redbirds would get goals from Jerome Gilbert and a shorthanded goal from Jeremie Payant before things devolved into rough stuff to wrap up the second. The Ravens penalty kill worked hard but couldn't hold off the Redbirds all night as Thomas Belzile snapped home the eventual game-winner with Blake Allan in the box.
The Ravens remained resilient on Sunday, despite being outshot 12-2 in the first period. Anthony Turcotte put UQTR ahead less than four minutes into the contest, but Carleton regrouped after the difficult opening frame.
In the second, the Ravens' power play came alive. Nick McCarry would score his second power play goal in as many games, extending his goal-scoring streak to four. Then, after Brady Egan hammered a one-timer past Charles-Antoine Lavallee, Robbie Rutledge chipped home a rebound on the power play to make it a 3-1 lead.
The Patriotes came hard in the third, outshooting Carleton 9-3. Thankfully for the Ravens, Dylan Meilun was fantastic goal, turning aside 8 of the 9 shots he faced as Carleton held up to drop the #5 ranked Pats 3-2.
The win helps Carleton keep pace with Ontario Tech; the Ridgebacks are just five points ahead of Carleton in 6th. The Ravens have a critical matchup with fifth-place Nipissing on Friday night at the Memorial Gardens before coming home to host RMC on Sunday at 7:00 PM.
