The Carleton Ravens fencing team put some finishing touches on their 2026 preseason by collecting a trio of medals at the Trillium Challenge in Waterloo.
Just one week ahead of the OUA Women's Fencing Championships, Emma McGrath captured the Ravens' first women's medal of the season with a silver in sabre. On the men's side, Kevin Zhou (Sabre) and Adian Starosta (Epee) both placed fifth in divisions of twenty or more competitors.
"This was an excellent result for Emma," shared Ravens coach Kyle Girard. "This was the last possible tournament before the Women's OUA championships next week, where we hope to duplicate these results."
The women's team started this year with a good mix of veterans and recruits. Unfortunately, with a few student-athletes sidelined by injuries, the team enters the championship far from full strength. Despite the setbacks, the Ravens have high hopes for some of the team's rookies. Without a complete Sabre team, the banner is out of reach this year, but coach Girard is hopeful for some individual and team medals.
