The Carleton Ravens women's hockey team saw their playoff hopes put to an end over the weekend, dropping a pair of games during their final homestand of the season.
The Ravens suffered their most difficult loss of the weekend on Friday, falling 2-0 to the TMU Bold and officially being eliminated from playoff contention. Neely Van Volsen scored 22 seconds into the third period and Gabby Gareau added another just 2:27 later to put the final nail in the Ravens' season.
Despite a late 5-on-3 power play, Carleton was unable to solve Sydney Pyburn, as she recorded her second shutout of the season.
The Ravens looked to bounce back on Senior Night, Saturday, holding the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks scoreless through two periods. In the third, the Ravens were the first to score as Avery Krawchuk stepped out of the box and took a stretch feed from Shannon McDonald for a breakaway, going forward-backhand over the pad of Zoe McGee.
Carleton's lead would hold for less than 7 minutes before Cassandra Delves had her centring pass bank in off a Carleton defender to tie the game.
The Ravens opened overtime on a 4-on-3 power play but couldn't solve McGee. After killing off a penalty of their own, the Ravens were less than a minute away from a shootout when Julianne Davidson picked up a loose puck in front of the Carleton bench. Davidson drove around two Ravens defenders and picked up her own rebound, finishing off the individual effort for the game winner.
