Week Ending August 29, 2016
David Monk (Oakville, ON) is this week’s TSN 1200 Carleton Ravens Male Athlete of the Week.
In the opening weekend of the 2016 season, Monk backstopped the men’s soccer team to two consecutive victories to start the campaign.
In Friday night’s 3-0 road win over Trent, Monk made four saves in ninety minutes of play, including a spectacular desperation dive to keep out a long range effort on goal. On Sunday, the Ravens hosted UOIT at MNP Park, where Monk played a key role in guiding Carleton to 2-1 victory.
In only his second season as a Raven, Monk has established himself as the first-choice keeper through the early portion of the schedule.
David is enrolled in the Journalism program at Carleton.
Kelsey Saha (Ottawa, ON) is this week’s TSN 1200 Carleton Ravens Female Athlete of the Week.
Saha, a third-year defender on the women’s soccer team, made an impact in both of her team’s games over the weekend.
The 5-foot-7 centre-back scored the opening goal of the season in the Ravens’ 2-1 win over Trent in Peterborough on August 26. It was Saha’s first regular season marker since her rookie campaign in 2014.
On Sunday, Saha had a strong game defending in the middle of the pitch, making strong tackles and remaining composed against a quick Ridgebacks front line. Despite yielding a late equalizer to UOIT, Saha was one of the Ravens’ top players in the 2-2 draw.
Kelsey is studying Neuroscience at Carleton.
