Carleton Ravens men’s basketball player Yasiin Joseph is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
The third-year guard had two impressive outings in Carleton’s 20th and 21st wins of the season over the weekend.
Joseph erupted for a game-high 21 points (8-18 FG) and team-high five assists in the Ravens’ 78-59 win over the Nipissing Lakers on February 9. The following night, the Ottawa, ON native scored 13 points (5-9 FG) to go along with six rebounds and three steals in 22 minutes of action, as the Ravens cruised to a 101-60 thrashing of No. 6 Laurentian in Sudbury.
In 21 starts this season, the 6-foot-1 junior ranks second in team scoring (14.6 PPG) and assists (3.8 APG).
Yasiin, a local product out of Glebe Collegiate Institute, is enroled in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Carleton.
Carleton Ravens women’s basketball player Jenjen Abella is this week’s TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
Abella, the fifth-year floor general, was the Ravens’ most consistent player in her team’s two victories on the weekend.
In Friday’s 90-41 win over Nipissing, Abella went 3-for-5 from beyond the arc, finishing with nine points to go along with four rebounds and three assists in only 10 minutes of playing time. Carleton’s 76-43 victory over Laurentian on February 10 saw Abella hit double figures in scoring with 13 points (4-7 FG), while adding four assists and two rebounds in 17 minutes on the court.
The 5-foot-4 point guard leads the team with 62 assists through 21 games in 2017-18.
Jenjen, a Hamilton, ON native, is studying in Carleton’s Criminology and Criminal Justice program.
