Week Ending February 15, 2016
Men’s basketball player Connor Wood (Guelph, ON) had a strong weekend showing in Carleton’s two road victories over CIS No.5 Brock (Feb.12) and No. 6 McMaster (Feb.13).
Wood, a fourth-year guard, put together a fine game with 15 points (7-15 FG), 7 rebounds, and 5 assists in Friday’s 90-65 win over the Badgers. The following evening, Wood poured in 22 points (7-14 FG), along with 4 rebounds and 2 assists in a 74-65 victory against the Marauders.
The 2014-15 OUA Men’s Basketball Second-Team All-Star is currently averaging 13.4 PPG, 4.5 RPG and 2.0 APG while shooting 45.5 FG% and 37.5 3PT FG%.
Connor is studying Economics at Carleton.
First-year Ravens swimmer Melinda Hubert (Bracebridge, ON) had an outstanding weekend while competing in the OUA Swimming Championships at Western from Feb. 12-14.
Hubert swam four individual races throughout the competition. In the 200m butterfly race, the 5-foot-3 freshman placed 7th, narrowly missing the CIS qualifying standard. Hubert also broke three CU records – including the 200m backstroke which had stood since 1993.
In the 4 x 100m freestyle relay, Hubert was only 0.1 seconds off the CU record with her lead-out leg of the in the 100m freestyle .
Melinda is enrolled in Carleton’s Faculty of Engineering and Design.
