Carleton Ravens men’s fencer Philip McCully (Ottawa, ON) is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
McCully, a fourth-year fencer, earned three medals at the 2017 OUA Men’s Fencing Championship held at Brock University from February 18-19 in St. Catharines, ON.
On Saturday, McCully finished second in the individual foil competition, collecting a silver medal and the third individual medal of his career at an OUA Fencing Championship.
The next day, McCully and his teammates won the foil team relay to clinch gold and Carleton’s fourth consecutive foil team relay victory at the OUA finals.
McCully’s performances helped Carleton achieve second overall, providing him with a second silver medal and his third podium result of the weekend.
Philip, a former winner of the Charles Walter Trophy as OUA Men’s Foil champion, studies Computer Science at Carleton.
Carleton Ravens women’s basketball player Catherine Traer (Chelsea, QC) is this week’s TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
Traer, a 6-foot-1 forward, was nearly unstoppable in Carleton’s two wins over U SPORTS No.8 Ryerson and Toronto over the weekend.
In Friday night’s 71-65 top-ten win over the Rams, Traer posted an incredible statline of 20 points, eight rebounds, seven steals, and five blocks as the Ravens eked out a thrilling overtime victory.
On Saturday, Traer collected her first double-double of the season by finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four blocks, two assists and two steals as the Ravens defeated Toronto, 66-52, in the regular-season finale to earn their 18th consecutive win.
Catherine, a 2015-16 OUA Second-Team All-Star, is working towards an MA in Political Science
