Carleton Ravens track and field athlete Telvin Tavernier (Midland, ON) is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
Tavernier, who is in his second year with the Ravens track and field team, had a spectacular weekend at the 2017 RSEQ Championships hosted by Laval University.
Entering the event as the holder of three Carleton team records, Tavernier excelled against top competition as he hauled in three medals (one gold, two silver) and was named the RSEQ Male Athlete of the Championships.
Tavernier, who specializes in the heptathlon, finished first in the pole vault event (4.5m), second in the 60m hurdles (8.86 seconds – establishing a new program record), and second overall in the long jump (6.52m).
Telvin, an Engineering major, will compete at his first U SPORTS National Championship at the University of Alberta from March 9-11, 2017.
Carleton Ravens Nordic skier Zoë Williams (Cantley, QC) is this week’s TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
Williams, a second-year Raven, had a very successful weekend at the 2017 OUA Nordic Skiing Championships held at Mountainview Ski and MTB Centre in Midland, ON.
With Carleton back to defend its championship title, Williams was the top performer on the women’s side as the Ravens captured the OUA banner for a second straight season.
Williams completed the weekend with four medals, including three silvers – two individual medals in the 5km and 10km events and one team silver in the 3x3km relay – and one gold medal as the overall team champions at the conclusion of the events on Sunday.
Zoë, who was also named a 2017 OUA Nordic All-Star, studies in Carleton’s Neuroscience and Mental Health program.
