Carleton Ravens men’s fencer Zac Zanussi is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
Zanussi, who is in his fifth year with the fencing team, won his first career individual gold medal on the weekend at the 2018 OUA Men’s Fencing Championship hosted by RMC.
The senior swordsman played a major role in his team’s third-place finish at the event.
His triumph over Queen’s David Litwin to win the Epee gold was Carleton’s first OUA Epee individual title since Peter Freill’s victory in the 1984-85 season. For his efforts, Zanussi was named an OUA All-Star for the fourth time in his Carleton career.
Zac, a native of Red Deer, AB, is pursuing a Mathematics degree at Carleton University.
Carleton Ravens women’s Nordic skier Zoë Williams is this week’s TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
Despite chilling temperatures at Nakkertok Ski Club, Williams posted several impressive results against the field at 2018 Canadian Eastern Championships on the weekend,
The third-year student-athlete had a top-ten result in the Classic Sprint on Day 1, followed by a first-place finish in the 10km Free Technique Interval Canadian university category on Day 2. On Day 3, Williams solidified her 1st place in the Canadian university category, and top U23 for the weekend, by posting the 12th fastest time on the day.
Zoë, a native of Cantley, QC, is pursuing a degree in Neuroscience and Mental Health at Carleton.
