Carleton Ravens Nordic skier Aidan Kirkham is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
From February 3-5, Kirkham competed at the 2017 Haywood NorAm Canadian Eastern Championships at Nakkertok Cross Country Ski Club. The talented rookie posted some excellent results at the Championships, including two third-place finishes to give him a third place overall finish to the weekend.
In Friday’s 1.4 km spring qualifier, Kirkham placed 6th (03:33.65) just under 20 seconds behind the first-place finisher. On Saturday, Kirkham picked up his pace in the 15km (3x5km) event, clocking in a combined 41:59.2 after three runs for a 3rd place result. In Sunday’s 20km race, the first-year Raven had another 3rd place finish, his second podium result of the weekend.
Kirkham and the Ravens Nordic team will compete at the 2017 OUA Championship (Feb. 24-26) in Midland, ON.

Carleton Ravens Nordic skier Zoë Williams is the TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
Williams was one of the top women’s competitors at the 2017 Haywood NorAm Canadian Eastern Championships (Feb. 3-5) at Nakkertok Cross Country Ski Club in Gatineau, QC. In three races, Williams completed her weekend with three superb results, including a podium finish on Day 3 of the Championships, finishing her weekend third overall.
Williams got off to a strong start at the Easterns, placing 4th in Friday’s 1.3km competition with a time of 04:01.60. On Saturday, the second-year Raven raced in the 10km (2x5km) event, finishing with a combined lap time of 33:09.4 for a second straight 4th place result. Williams saved her best performance for last in Sunday’s 15km (3x5km) Cyclery Pursuit, ending the weekend by winning the final event.
Williams and the Ravens Nordic team will compete at the 2017 OUA Championship (Feb. 24-26) in Midland, ON.
