Week Ending January 29, 2017
Carleton Ravens men’s basketball player Eddie Ekiyor (Ottawa, ON) is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
Ekiyor, a 6-foot-9 rookie, had two of his best performances of the season in wins over Windsor and Western last weekend, helping Carleton extend its regular season unbeaten run to 14 games.
In Friday night’s 104-54 drubbing of the Lancers, Ekiyor went a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, finishing with 16 points, five rebounds and a pair of blocks. The next night at Western, the first-year forward collected his second double-double of season by scoring 21 points (8-11 FG) to go along with 11 rebounds, both career highs.
Ekiyor and the Ravens will look to keep their perfect season going against the Ottawa Gee-Gees this Friday in the 11th annual Capital Hoops Classic.
Eddie is studying Psychology at Carleton University.
Carleton Ravens women’s basketball player Catherine Traer (Chelsea, QC) is this week’s TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
After sitting out Carleton’s two previous games against Guelph and Lakehead, Traer returned to action over the weekend and led the Ravens to a sweep of No.6 Windsor and Western in Southwestern Ontario.
In Friday’s 70-59 win over the nationally-ranked Lancers, Traer scored a team-high 19 points (3-for-4 3PT FG), while adding six rebounds and two blocks. The following day at Western, the 6-foot-1 forward tied her season-high with 22 points (9-for-18 FG), to go along with four rebounds. Traer also tied a career-high with five steals on the defensive end of floor.
Aided by Traer’s 15.4 points per game, Carleton remains undefeated since a season-opening loss at Algoma, reeling off 13 consecutive wins to equal a program record set by the 2010-11 Ravens.
Catherine is pursuing an MA in Political Science at Carleton.
