Week Ending January 7, 2018
Carleton Ravens men’s basketball player Yasiin Joseph is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
Joseph, a third-year guard, seized the moment in Carleton’s 89-80 win over OUA East rival Ryerson on January 5, scoring 22 points to go along with four rebounds, two steals and a game-high eight assists.
In the Ravens’ 103-54 victory against Toronto the following evening, the Glebe Collegiate graduate filled the stat sheet with five points, three rebounds, three steals and six helpers in just 18 minutes of floor time.
Joseph ranks second on the team in scoring through 12 games with 13.7 PPG and his 42 assists places him in the conference’s top ten playmakers.
Yasiin, a native of Ottawa, ON, is studying Criminology and Criminal Justice at Carleton.
Carleton Ravens women’s hockey player Katelyn Steele is this week’s TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
Steele, a two-time RSEQ All-Star, stood tall in her team’s two narrow defeats to conference opposition over the weekend. Despite taking two losses in goal, the fourth-year netminder was outstanding between the pipes, demonstrating her value to the Ravens.
Apart from the Gee-Gees’ two-goal outburst in 11 seconds midway through the first period, Steele was nearly perfect in net, stopping 26 of 28 shots in the Ravens’ 2-0 setback at Minto Sports Complex.
In Sunday’s 1-0 defeat to No. 9 Montreal at the Ice House, the ‘Steele Wall’ made 31 saves, denying the talented Carabins time and time again to provide Carleton with a fighting chance.
Katelyn, a native of Markham, ON, is pursuing a degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Carleton.
