Week Ending January 11, 2016
On the weekend, the Ravens were well represented by the men’s foil team at the Carleton Fencing Invitational. The team’s three members – Geoffrey Devaney, Philip McCully and Alex Salat – finished in first place in the team relay by defeating the uOttawa Gee-Gees in a closely contested gold medal finale.
The men’s foil team entered the weekend with one gold medal under their belt from the RMC Invitational in November. With two first place tournament finishes now secured, the experienced trio will look to build on their success at the OUA Men’s Fencing Championships next month at the University of Western Ontario from February 19-21, 2016.
The women’s épée team had a successful tournament at the Carleton Fencing Invitational this past weekend. The group – represented by Emese Dukai-Branscombe, Madelyn Krasnay and Sharon Schuppe – were up against nine other teams looking for a podium result. The women finished in third place to capture a bronze medal over RMC B in their final team relay.
With the OUA Women’s Fencing Championships just around the corner, the épée team will look to repeat as gold medalists this season following the team’s relay triumph at the OUA finals in 2015. The event will be hosted by the University of Ottawa from February 12-14, 2016.
