Week Ending March 18, 2018
Carleton Ravens Nordic skier Aidan Kirkham is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
Kirkham, along with the Ravens, competed at the 2018 Ski Nationals from March 10-14 at the Lappe Nordic Centre where the sophomore skier seized his opportunity in the final races of the university season, helping the Carleton men finish fourth overall.
The two-time OUA All-Star carried his excellent conference form to the national stage, placing second overall in the men’s individual category following two top-three finishes. Kirkham, who was named a Canadian College and Universities National Championship All-Canadian in 2017, came in second place in the 10km Classic Interval Start on March 11 followed by a second-place result in Free Pursuit on March 13.
Aidan, a Kanata, ON native, is enroled in the Environmental Science programme at Carleton University.
Carleton Ravens Nordic skier Zoë Williams is this week’s TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
It was a sensational end to the varsity season for Williams, who capped off the year by leading a strong Ravens women’s Nordic contingent to the national title at the 2018 Canadian Colleges and Universities National Championship (CCUNC) in Thunder Bay, ON.
Williams, the 2018 OUA Championship individual gold medalist, found great success against her CCUNC peers last week by securing a third place finish in the individual category. Williams won gold with teammate Emily Jones in the Team Sprint before ending up second overall in the Free Pursuit and third in the Long Sprints Time Trial. Collectively, Williams’ outstanding performances helped Carleton capture the women’s team championship.
Zoë, a native of Cantley, QC, is pursuing a Neuroscience and Mental Health degree at Carleton University.
