Week Ending November 20, 2016
Carleton Ravens men’s hockey player Corey Durocher (Ottawa, ON) is the TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
Durocher, a fourth-year senior, had a pair of outstanding performances in Carleton’s recent visit to Northern Ontario. The Ravens, who were defeated, 3-1, against Laurentian (Nov. 18) before coming back with a 3-1 win over Nipissing (Nov. 19) the following evening, were inspired by Durocher’s strong work ethic at both ends of the ice during the two-game set.
The 6-foot-3, 190-pound winger was named the Player of the Game against Laurentian, before producing his first collegiate hat-trick in a 3-1 win over the Lakers in a POTG encore.
Corey, who currently sits third in team scoring with 14 points (7 G/7 A), is studying Sociology and Anthropology at Carleton.
Durocher and the Ravens host Concordia (Nov. 25) and UQTR (Nov. 26) at the Ice House later this week.
Carleton Ravens women’s hockey player Kaylie Welk (Killaloe, ON) is the TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
Welk, a fifth-year veteran, had her best outings of the 2016-17 season in Carleton’s two road games at No.5 nationally-ranked Montreal (Nov. 18) and uOttawa (Nov. 20).
The 5-foot-4 forward sniped Carleton’s lone score against the Carabins on Friday evening, before tallying another goal – her second of the weekend – against the Gee-Gees at the Minto Sports Complex on Sunday.
Defensively, Welk gave the Ravens a boost of energy with relentless hustle on the penalty kill, while also providing tremendous support on the backcheck against the opposition’s top scoring line.
Kaylie is enrolled in Communication Studies at Carleton.
Welk and Carleton visit McGill on Friday, November 25.
