Week Ending October 17, 2016
Carleton Ravens men’s basketball player Connor Wood (Guelph, ON) is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
Wood, a 6-foot-4 guard, was named the MVP of the 27th annual House-Laughton Tournament this past weekend. In his team’s three games, Wood averaged 21.6 points and 5 rebounds per contest as the Ravens swept through the competition with a 35-point average margin of victory.
The 2016 CIS Final 8 MVP had an outstanding shooting weekend, going 18-for-21 (85.7%) from beyond the arc in the Ravens’ three wins.
With Wood leading the team, Carleton won its sixteenth consecutive House-Laughton Tournament title.
Connor, a fifth-year senior, is studying Psychology at Carleton.
Carleton Ravens rugby player Mel Judges (Ottawa, ON) is this week’s TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
Judges, who joined up with the Ravens for her final season of CIS eligibility, was Carleton’s standout player in the team’s 17-17 tie with the Montreal Carabins on October 16. Despite a valiant effort shown by the group, the Ravens lost out on a tiebreaker to the Carabins for the final RSEQ playoff spot.
Playing as a Number 8, Judges’ experience level and leadership skills were crucial in helping Carleton finish the season with a 3-3-1 record, its best final standing in the league since joining the RSEQ in 2012. Her intensity on the pitch, along with her strength and determination in gaining the hard yards, helped the Ravens become a playoff contender in 2016.
Mel is enrolled in Carleton’s Sprott MBA program.
