Week Ending October 2, 2016
Carleton Ravens football player Tunde Adeleke (Ottawa, ON) is the TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
Adeleke, a multitalented defensive back and special teams kick and punt returner, made the play of the game in Carleton’s 43-23 Panda Game victory over No.7 Ottawa on October 1.
With the Ravens holding onto the lead early in the fourth, the 5-foot-10, 178lbs. speedster returned a Gee-Gees missed field goal 120-yards to pay dirt, ending Ottawa’s hope of a comeback in the process.
The play marked the second longest return of Adeleke’s career following his 129-yard missed field goal return for touchdown against Ottawa in the 2013 Panda Game.
Adeleke finished the game with five punt returns for 176 yards and 1 touchdown. The fourth-year playmaker currently leads the CIS in punt return yards (562), punt return average (22.5) and punt return TDs (4).
Tunde studies in Carleton’s Communication program.
Carleton Ravens women’s soccer player Amanda Ngwafusi (Ottawa, ON) is the TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
Ngwafusi, a fifth-year midfielder, scored twice in Carleton’s 4-2 defeat of the Queen’s Gaels on October 2, providing the Ravens with a crucial victory to stay in the thick of the OUA East playoff hunt.
Playing on the right wing, Ngwafusi opened the scoring for the Ravens when she broke into the box following a great flick-on header from teammate Emily Copeland Dinan, and made no mistake by blasting the ball across the Gaels goaltender, off of the far post and into the back of the net for her first of the season.
With the Ravens leading by a score of 3-1, Ngwafusi delivered the knockout blow in the second half as her 30-yard free kick swerved and dipped before finding its way underneath the Queen’s keeper and into the goal for her second tally of the game. It was Ngwafusi’s top performance of 2016.
Amanda is enrolled in Carleton’s Communication program.
