Week Ending October 25th, 2015
Brett Welychka (London, ON) has been a tremendous asset for the men’s hockey team through five games this season.
This past weekend, Welychka led the Ravens in scoring in a sweep of the Waterloo Warriors and the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks on Carleton’s two-game road trip to Southwestern Ontario.
In a 9-2 thrashing of Waterloo, the former Belleville Bulls captain scored a goal and collected three assists. The next night against Laurier, the first-year forward contributed a goal in a 2-0 shutout performance over the Golden Hawks.
Welychka currently leads the OUA and the CIS in total points scored while helping guide Carleton (4-1-0) into a tie for third place in the OUA East standings.
Brett is enrolled in the Bachelor of Arts program at Carleton.
Anna Currie (Regina, SK), a member of Carleton’s rowing team, is this week’s female athlete of the week. Currie had one of the most successful displays of any Raven at last weekend’s OUA Championship in St. Catharines, ON.
On the morning of October 24th, the third-year rower competed in the lightweight singles final, where she ended up winning a bronze medal for her efforts. Currie’s time of 8:25.63 was nearly twenty seconds faster than the fourth-place finisher in the race.
Currie will help lead the Ravens into the Canadian University Rowing Championships this weekend (October 31st-November 1st) in Lochaber, Nova Scotia with the aim of winning another medal at the national level.
Anna is studying in the School of Social Work at Carleton University.
