Week Ending October 25, 2021
On the soccer pitch, Matteo de Brienne (Ottawa, Ont.) finished a gorgeous Tareq Hamad volley that stretch from the centre line to inside the box with a rocket left-foot strike on Sunday afternoon to help the Carleton Ravens pick up an important road draw at the formidable York Lions. The strike heard around the soccer world has made waves on social media for its eerie similarity to the 2013 Rooney to Van Persie volley against Villa. The Ravens are back in action this weekend with important playoff positioning on the line when they travel to Trent on Friday. The Ravens and Excalibur return to the Ravens’ Perch Sunday to wrap up the regular season. Kickoff on the Carleton campus is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, on the rugby pitch, Lauryn Walker (Brampton, Ont.) scored the lone try in Carleton’s Friday night victoria over the Concordia Stingers. The victory marks the first time in their ten year history that the Ravens have beat the Stingers in Montreal while also propelling the Ravens to the RSEQ semi-finals for only the second time in their history. The third-year forward has been instrumental for the Ravens with seven regular-season tries. The Ravens head to Laval on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. clash with the first place Rouge et Or.
