Carleton Ravens football player Christian Battistelli (Whitefish, ON) is the TSN 1200 OUA Athlete of the Week.
Battistelli, a 6-foot-1 running back, burned the Ottawa Gee-Gees for a career-high 131 rushing yards in Carleton’s 45-9 quarterfinal playoff thrashing of their cross-town nemesis.
The fourth-year student-athlete from Whitefish, ON scrambled for big gains in the second half, including a game-high 56-yard sprint through the heart of the Gee-Gees’ defence and straight into the end zone for his first touchdown of the season.
Battistelli and the Ravens (6-2, 1-0) will head to London, ON this weekend to take on the Western Mustangs (7-1), whose only loss this season came to Carleton, 38-31, in Week 2 of the regular season.
Christian is a Commerce major in Carleton’s Sprott School of Business.
The Ravens rowing women’s heavyweight four crew of Gabriele Zitikyte (Ottawa, ON), Mikayla Arends (Barrie, ON), Karlee Vanhie (Dorchester, ON), Anna Currie (Regina, SK) and coxswain Delaney Gilmore (Ottawa, ON) are the TSN 1200 Female Athletes of the Week.
Carleton’s rowing team competed at the 2016 OUA Championships over the weekend in St. Catharines, ON. With crews representing universities from all around the province, the Ravens women’s heavyweight four crew captured a bronze medal in the 2 km final in time of 7:22:08, just eight seconds off the lead boat.
It was the first Carleton rowing medal in a large crew boat event, men or women, in many years. It was one of two team medals won by the Ravens at the championship.
The Ravens women’s heavyweight four crew along with the other Carleton rowers will move on to compete at the Canadian University Rowing Championships in Welland, ON from November 4-6, 2016.
