Week Ending September 19, 2016
Ravens men’s soccer player Daud Dahir (Ottawa, ON) is the TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
Dahir, a fifth-year midfielder, was a stellar performer in Carleton’s three wins over Trent (Sept.14, 9-1), RMC (Sept. 16, 4-0), and Queen’s (Sept.18, 4-2) last week.
The 2014 OUA All-Star netted five goals in the three games, including a hat-trick against Trent, and his team’s opening tally against the Paladins and Gaels.
Through seven games in 2016, Dahir is in a five-way split for the OUA scoring lead with five goals, and his seven points (5G, 2A) ranks him tied for first in the conference.
Daud is studying Commerce at Carleton.
Carleton rugby player Eila Collings (Calgary, AB) is the TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
Collings, a fourth-year player, had one of the best games of her university career in the Ravens’ 26-0 shutout of the Sherbrooke Vert et Or on September 18.
The five-foot-eight winger was the top Ravens defender in the game, as she repeatedly broke the Sherbrooke line while making hard and clean open-field tackles against her opponents.
With the exceptional support of Collings, the Ravens earned their first shutout win since the fall of 2014. With an undefeated 3-0 record to begin the season, the rugby team is off to its best start in the five-year history of the varsity program.
Eila is majoring in Engineering at Carleton.
