Week Ending September 3, 2017
Carleton Ravens football player Leon Cenerini (La Salle, MB) is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
Despite the Ravens suffering a 23-9 setback in their home opener against McMaster on September 3, Cenerini had an outstanding performance in the heart of the Carleton defence.
The fifth-year linebacker made a game-high 10 tackles (7 solo, 6 assisted), while adding 1.5 sacks.
With Cenerini leading the way, the Ravens’ defence limited the Marauders’ offence to 142 yards total, yielding only seven points.
Cenerini, who has led the Ravens in tackles in three of the past four seasons, is majoring in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Carleton.
Carleton Ravens women’s soccer player Melanie Hoekstra (Bowmanville, ON) is this week’s TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
The first-year midfielder recorded four shots on net and scored the game-winning goal in Carleton’s 2-1 victory over the Toronto Varsity Blues on September 2.
It was the rookie’s second goal of the young season, propelling the Ravens to their second win of the season. In addition to her goal, Hoekstra started her second career game against the Ryerson Rams on September 1.
Hoekstra, a graduate of FC Durham Academy, will be studying Biology in her first year at Carleton.
