Week Ending September 5, 2016
Running back Jayde Rowe (Scarborough, ON) of Ravens football is this week’s TSN 1200 Male Athlete of the Week.
Rowe, a 5-foot-10 tailback, rushed for 161 yards and two touchdowns as the No.9 Ravens won a dramatic CIS top-ten showdown against No.4 Western, 38-31, on Sunday evening in the team’s home opener.
The University of Regina transfer scored his first Ravens touchdown on an impressive 74-yard scamper, using his size and speed to break through several tackles before finding the end zone. Rowe averaged 8.9 yards per carry on 18 rushing attempts against the Mustangs.
Jayde, a fourth-year student athlete, is enrolled in Carleton’s History program.
Ravens rugby player Ellen Spannagel (Calgary, AB) is this week’s TSN 1200 Female Athlete of the Week.
Spannagel, a 5-foot-4 winger, was a big contributor in her team’s massive 68-5 road win over Bishop’s in the first game of the season. The elusive attacker’s excellent play helped the Ravens break out to a 34-0 halftime lead, as Spannagel scored two of her game-high three tries in the opening forty minutes.
Carleton’s 68 points in the first game of 2016 nearly equaled the team’s entire scoring output (82 points) from the seven-game schedule in 2015.
Ellen, a rising sophomore, is studying in Carleton’s Journalism program.
