5 Reasons You Should Attend the 2015 MBNA Capital Hoops Classic

Written by Natasha Gorey

Who’s ready for MBNA Capital Hoops 2015? I know I am. On February 6th the Carleton Ravens will face their cross-town rivals, the Ottawa U Gee-Gees in what will be a thrilling game of basketball. Both the men and women’s teams will compete not only for a win in the standings but for bragging rights. The MBNA Capital Hoops Classic is one of the most exciting events of the year and here are 5 reasons why you should attend.

1. It’s going to be a nail biter!

The 9th annual Capital Hoops Classic is going to be enticing. It’s a double header between the Carleton Ravens and the Ottawa U Gee-Gees. Tensions will rise as the crowd watches the two best basketball teams in CIS go head-to-head. On January 10th the Ravens faced the Gee-Gees and lost 68-66. One small mistake could determine who wins this year’s Capital Hoops Classic and gains the advantage heading into playoffs.

2. School Spirit

Scream loud for the Ravens! It’s one of the best parts of attending Capital Hoops. You get to be creative by throwing together your favorite Ravens merch, painting your face with school colours and coming up with fun chants. This is probably the one event where you can shout at the top of your lungs without consequence and have loads of fun doing it. You and your fellow Ravens will have a blast showing off your incredible school spirit.

3. One word: Food

The Canadian Tire Centre is full of fantastic pubs and concessions. If you want pizza the Canadian Tire Centre has it. If you want poutine they have it. The list of mouth-watering food available to you is endless. An intense game of basketball and delicious food is the perfect combination.

4. Easy Transportation

You won’t have to wait for bus transfers, pay for parking, buying gas, or walking to the Canadian Tire Centre because Carleton’s got you covered. The university will be providing a shuttle bus from campus straight to the Canadian Tire Centre. You can purchase a ticket at various locations on campus for only $15. It includes transportation to and from the venue as well as admission for both games. See for more info.

5. Community and Pride

As most of you know Carleton and Ottawa U are cross-town rivals. Both Ravens and Gee-Gees like to poke fun at each other but when it comes down to it they’re both part of the Ottawa community. The atmosphere at the Canadian Tire Centre is going to be electric. By the end of the night it won’t matter if you’re a Raven or a Gee-Gee, the Capital Hoops Classic will leave you with pride for your school and community.

The 9th annual Capital Hoops Classic will be thrilling, entertaining and fierce. If that doesn’t convince you to attend I don’t know what will. So come out cheer loud for the Ravens. #CUThere and remember to:
