If you are a fan of the Olympics and Carleton athletics, be sure not to miss the next Thursday Night Live program on:
Thursday, July 8, 2021
Please register here.
The virtual program features two former Carleton athletes synonymous with the Olympics in Canada, and one about to leave to compete in Tokyo. The Honourable Hugh Fraser, competed for Canada at the 1976 Montreal Olympics and the 1978 Commonwealth Games in Edmonton before arriving at Carleton to play wide receiver for the Ravens in 1978, will be joining us to talk about his Olympic experiences. He went on to serve on the Ontario Court of Justice and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal. He also served on the Dubin Inquiry in the wake of the 1988 Ben Johnson scandal.
Joining Hugh will be a familiar voice to Canadian Olympic fans, broadcast journalist and former Ravens football quarterback Mark Lee. Mark has covered 18 Olympics as a CBC broadcaster, and will be heading to Japan this summer for the rescheduled 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Mark will be talking with Hugh, and about his own Olympic memories.
Kelleigh Ryan, Carleton Ravens 2010 Female Athlete of the Year, will be joining us on the eve of her departure for Tokyo. A fencer who has competed at the 2011 and 2015 Pan American Games, Tokyo will be her second Olympic experience but her first Olympic competition.
Last but certainly not least, former Ravens soccer player and visionary Andrew Latty will join the program to discuss his “Bench the Barriers” initiative and discuss the mental health challenges athletes encounter training for a return to competition. You’re not going to want to miss this one!
