Ravens Kick Off European Tour With Win

Written by Carlos Verde, Sports Information Assistant

(Peiting, GERMANY) – The Carleton Ravens men’s hockey team began its three-game European pre-season tour with a victory on Friday, defeating EC Peiting 2-0.

Veteran forward Mike McNamee (Perth, ON) opened the scoring for the Ravens with two minutes left in the first period, roofing a rebound past Peiting netminder Florian Hechenrieder.

Ravens forward Mitch Zion (Manotick, ON) then iced the game for Carleton, deflecting an Owen Werthner (Ottawa, ON) shot past Hechenrieder inside the final five minutes of the third period.

Carleton outshot Peiting 41-19, and had it not been for Hechenrieder’s performance in net for the German team, the Ravens could have run away with Friday’s game early on.

CU’s penalty kill was sharp, denying all eight of Peiting’s powerplay opportunities on the night, while the Ravens powerplay went 0-for-3.

Matt Jenkins (Carleton Place, ON) got the 19-save shutout between the pipes for Marty Johnston’s team.

Carleton will now move towards Italy ahead of a Labour Day tilt on September 7th against Ritten Sport, one of the Italian Serie A league’s best clubs.
