(Kitzbuhel, AUSTRIA) – In the end, the Carleton Ravens men’s hockey team was too good for the final opposition of its 2015 European tour. Marty Johnston’s Carleton team dominated EC Kitzbuhel from start to finish on Tuesday night, outshooting the Austrian hosts 36-15 en route to a 6-1 win.
Ryan Van Stralen (Prescott, ON) and Mike McNamee (Perth, ON) both found the back of the Kitzbuhel net in the opening frame for Carleton, opening up a 2-0 lead which the Ravens would not relinquish.
A second period explosion saw Carleton extend its lead to 6-0, thanks to goals from Max Dumond (Orleans, ON), Brett Welychka (London, ON), Jeremie Fraser (Cantley, QC), and Van Stralen, again.
Former University of Vermont standout Peter Lenes scored a consolation goal for Kitzbuhel in the third period.
Francis Dupuis (Ottawa, ON) picked up the start in net for the Ravens, stopping 14 of the 15 shots he faced.
Carleton’s powerplay came to life against the Austrians, going 2-for-4 thanks to goals from Welychka and Van Stralen.
With the win, Carleton completed the European sweep on its 2015 Exhibition tour, going 3-0.
