(OTTAWA, ON) — An explosive third-quarter onslaught by the Regina Cougars (2-0) helped guide them to a 76-62 victory over the UQAM Citadins (1-1) in the first game on Day 2 of the McKeen Metro Glebe Tournament.

The Cougars used a 29-point third to take control of a game that was otherwise very competitive. Katie Polischuk of Regina drained 21 points in the victory, as she connected on four 3-point shots while going 8-13 from the floor in the game.

Both team shot well in the first, but UQAM took an 18-15 lead going into the second quarter. The Citadins’ Lorna Desrameaux and Jessica Lubin added 6 points a piece in the opening frame.

Early in the second, UQAM’s starting point guard Janice Quintos went down with an lower body injury which ended her evening. Regina’s Alyssia Kajati stepped up her game in second to lead the Cougars with 6 points and 3 rebounds as the tournament’s lone Canada West representative climbed ahead just before half to take a slim two-point command into the locker room.

Polischuk, who led Canada West with 59 three-pointers made during the 2014-15 season, was unconscious from beyond the arc when play resumed in the second half. The fourth-year player added 12 points on a 4-4 third quarter shooting performance from long-distance. Charlotte Kot also contributed 5 points and 4 rebounds to push the Cougars ahead by fifteen through three.

Britton Belyk came off of the Regina bench to add 14 points for the Cougars as they would go on to win by a comfortable 14-point margin.

Regina had a significant advantage on the glass as they grabbed 38 rebounds compared to UQAM’s total of 21.
