OSHAWA, ON — The Carleton Ravens golf team competed at the OUA Championship from October 19-20 at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club. Carleton sent five male golfers to the tournament including: Chris Collins (Ottawa, ON), Dan Ludwick (Calgary, AB), Tyler Watson (Guelph, ON), Chris Hennigar (London, ON) and Albert Johnson (Barrie, ON). On the women’s side, Samantha Coates (Kanata, ON), winner of the Toronto Invitational in September, represented the women’s golf team at the tournament.
Following a strong 6th place finish at the Waterloo/Wilfrid Laurier Invitational a few weekends ago, Carleton came into this tournament with a realistic shot at moving towards a medal. However, the first day did not go according to plan. A frost warning delayed the opening tee-off, but when play resumed, Carleton looked shaky as an overall unit. They finsihed the front nine with a +25, but turned around their performance with a +19 on the back end. The five men’s golfers finished with a score of 328, placing them in 11th after the 1st round.
Carleton’s team performance in Round 2 was outstanding. The Ravens shot even par through the first nine holes and then went +4 on the back end. Carleton finished with a bounce-back performance and the second best team total on Day 2.
The men’s team finished the OUA Championship in the top 10 for the first time in several years.
On an individual basis, Chris Collins finished tied for 8th overall and was named an OUA Second-Team All-Star for his +7 combined round score. Chris Hennigar tied for low tournament round with a 2 under par round of 70 on Day 2.
Sam Coates finished her OUA golf career in style by finishing tied for 4th overall. While Carleton did not have a women’s team result, Coates represented the university well with a +18 score over two rounds. Coates was named an OUA First-Team All Star for the first time.
